Feeding Young People, Mind, Body, and Soul
Slice of Life is a pioneering youth project designed to engage young people in Burley in Wharfedale and the surrounding community. Our mission is to revolutionise youth work by creating a welcoming space where young people can gather, share pizza, and share life. Recognising that young people are unlikely to walk into a church on their own, we aim to meet them where they are, providing a place where they can be listened to, valued, and shown God’s love without any expectations.
Goals

Foster meaningful conversations about faith over a shared meal.
Relationship Building
Through food and conversation, we aim to listen to young people, understand their needs, and integrate the church into their lives, creating a supportive community.
Encouragement and Support
Provide a hope-filled space that offers practical support and addresses the well-being of young people.
The young people in our community are facing an escalating mental health crisis. Research shows that the rate of mental health issues among young people is increasing, and traditional institutions like schools and the NHS are struggling to keep up. Early intervention, offering safe and welcoming spaces where young people feel valued and have a sense of belonging, is crucial. However, conventional youth clubs and organized activities are no longer meeting the needs of this generation.
We believe that God is calling us to take a radical approach to youth work. By stepping outside the church and meeting young people in their own environments, we can help them build a supportive community, develop resilience, and experience acceptance. Research tells us that this generation, is searching for spiritual meaning and is open to the message of the Gospel. They need a non-prescriptive, social, and explorative environment where they can experience the Gospel through acts of hospitality, generosity, acceptance, and love.
