Church & Community Team

The Church and Community team ensures that our congregation is involved in the life of our community and enables major village activities to take place on our premises.

Annual Advent Festival

Advent Festival throughout December involving all three schools, Nurseries, Pre-School groups and youth groups in celebrating this major Festival of the church through Creative and Performing Arts.

The Church and Community team is preparing for Advent. The theme this year is Out of the Ordinary - Welcome to Narnia. The local schools, playgroups and Sunday School have been contacted and are all now busy transforming the church into Narnia. The display will be opened to coincide with the switching on of the Burley lights on Saturday 2nd December. The church will be open from 11:30 to 17:30 with refreshments, soup, baking and drinks being served from 12:00. We look forward to seeing you there.

Ministry in Schools

For many years, the pastoral staff of our church have been involved in leading assemblies at our local primary schools, Burley Oaks Primary School and Burley & Woodhead CoE Primary School.

In addition, the Burley Oaks Christmas and Easter Assemblies have usually taken place in our church, using our creative musical and visual capabilities to the full with the support of the team of stewards.

At various times, our church has been involved in various aspects of school life including:

  • visiting classes to assist with R.E lessons

  • involvement in the ecumenical "Unique Course" in schools which empowers children with emotional and relational life skills

  • supporting exciting projects, including one with a focus on local history and a special "time capsule"
